The Remit

Our client wanted to preserve the rich heritage of this Grade 2 star building while also boosting its energy efficiency. Since we couldn’t access the roof voids from inside, we had to remove the stone slates to insulate the roof.

We discovered that the coping stones on the gable ends had no mortar, causing water to seep in. Additionally, the unique original stone slate valleys were leaking.

To top it off, the central box gutter had been poorly relined with rubber by a previous company. Our team was on hand to set things right!

Restoration Update on Re-roofing a Grade II* Listed Building!

We’re thrilled to share the incredible work we’ve done to preserve the historic charm of this beloved building while enhancing its performance and longevity.

🔹 Each stone slate was carefully removed, labeled, and replaced to maintain its original beauty. We added high-performance insulation to boost energy efficiency without compromising the building’s integrity.

🔹 To tackle water leakage, coping stones were secured using traditional lime mortar, respecting the building’s heritage.

🔹 The stone slate valleys underwent meticulous repairs, restoring functionality while keeping their original appearance. We installed 300 mm earthwool insulation to ensure the roof’s waterproofing integrity.

🔹 TLX Gold insulated felt and BS5534 battens were added, and the original stone slates were relaid in sequence. The central box gutter was re-lined with high-quality materials for durability.

🔹 Coping stones were skillfully laid to direct water flow into the lead guttering, ensuring efficient drainage.

🔹 We installed individual lead soakers at each gable end, creating a continuous damp-proof membrane before bedding the coping stones.

🔹 All mortar work was done using heritage lime mortar, combining NHL5 Lime with Nosterfield and Leighton Buzzard sand.
